Valentine’s cake failure

Hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day!

While I attempted to make a nice heart cake, practically everything went wrong.

To goal was to make a vanilla sponge cake with buttercream and fresh strawberry filling with buttercream rosettes on the side of the heart and chocolate covered strawberries on the top.

What really happened?

I burnt a cake, ripped it, dropped it on the counter, and ran out of buttercream..

To begin I made 1.5 batches of Georgia’s cakes recipe for a vanilla sponge cake. I split it into a square and a circle pan. I cut the circle pan in half down the center and attached those to the sides of the square to form a heart. Since I ripped my square, I kind of had to piece it together just to get it in the shape.

I filled each layer with buttercream, fresh strawberries, and chocolate ganache.

Once I did a crumb coat, I ran out of buttercream so decided to cover it in ganache to try to just finish it off. However, my ganache was too runny and it became a mess so I chilled my ganache to firm it up a bit to cover the cake and put my dipped strawberries.

While I had many off things happen, I was able to save it (best I could) and still have a decent looking cake!
